A new year brings new opportunities for you and your pet to bond, develop healthier habits and discover new ways to live a full life. No matter how experienced you are as a pet owner, there is always more to learn and something to improve upon as each pet is different and comes with its own set of unique needs. Although common New Year's resolutions typically focus on your own personal health and goals, why not incorporate some resolutions for your furry friends as well? Your pet can live a better tomorrow with your help. This year, Intesto-Guard™ would like to encourage you to show your gratitude and resolve to make some positive changes in your and your pets' lives.

Simple New Year's Resolutions To Make as a Pet Owner
Once you decide on the resolutions you want to focus on for yourself, think about how you can incorporate your pet into those goals. Below are some ideas on how to include your pet in popular New Year's resolutions:
- Fitness – Get in shape and exercise with your pet. Go jogging, hiking or simply take long walks together. There are many outdoor activities you can do with your pet that will also benefit both of your physical fitness as well.
- Nutrition – Take steps to eat healthier, and have your pet eat healthier too! Instead of table scraps or fatty treats, try giving your dog raw vegetables, such as green beans, carrots or celery, as treats. Of course, be sure to consult your veterinarian regarding any dietary changes or advice.
- Health – Stay on top of your wellness checks. Schedule recurring annual exams — one for you and one for your pet — to ensure you both stay in tip-top shape.
- Relationships – Prioritize spending one-on-one, quality time with your pet. Carve out a small part of your day to play with toys, do an activity together or simply cuddle on the couch and watch TV. A relationship is about being with one another and sharing experiences, so spending time together will strengthen your bond.
- Finances – When it comes to having pets, unexpected trips to the vet are almost inevitable, and tend to be very costly. It is good to be prepared financially in case something does happen so you can provide your pet with the best possible care. Start a savings account for you and your pet for emergency purposes and consider purchasing pet insurance for some extra peace of mind.
- Community service – Give back to your community by volunteering your services at a local animal shelter. You can even donate supplies, such as one of your pet's beds, clean towels or a new pack of food.
- Learning a new skill – Join a class and learn something new with your pet. There are so many sports and events to try, including agility, obedience (Canine Good Citizen™), tracking, lure coursing, herding and so much more — not to mention it's great exercise! If you don’t want to commit to participating in a class, teaching your pet some new tricks at home will stimulate their mind and keep them mentally sharp.
Follow Through With Your Resolutions
It is important to make resolutions that pique your interest and motivate you to make positive changes in the new year. After you determine the right resolutions for you and your pet, create a realistic plan that you can stick to that will help you achieve them. You could even work towards a resolution with a friend or family member and hold each other accountable, making sure you both are reaching your goals with your pets. You could also start a calendar and write down short-term goals week-by-week or month-by-month that will ultimately lead up to your final goal. Most importantly, get excited! This is your year to get healthy and bond with your pet.
